Everything was covered with a thick covering of snow. Once leafy bushes now lay buried beneath thick blankets that made them look like mere lumps on the landscape, and glimmering, frost-like specks clung to the bark of the trees and made them shimmer. Snow fell lightly from the thick gray clouds above. The air was still, and everything was quiet.
Eaglefeather stepped delicately through the snow filled landscape, blinking when flakes of white snow drifted down close to her blue eyes. The siamese she-cat scanned the forest ahead of her, pausing for a brief moment to survey her surroundings in hopes of finding some form of herbs. There was nothing but shimmering white everywhere she looked, and the river that wound through the trees ahead of her was completely frozen over along the shores. A channel of black, icy water rushed by in an opening in the ice at the middle of the river.
Slowly, Eaglefeather advanced forward again, drawing closer to the river. Leaf-bare was well upon the forest now that the river was nearly frozen over. That was never a good thing- precious herbs that she would need to last through the winter months always shriveled and died quicker than they usually would when the ice came. All of the herbs that had grown beside the frozen river would now be dead, brown, and useless. She had collected some herbs ahead of time, of course, but now those supplies were running low, and she desperately needed more herbs.

Nightshade snuck up beside Eaglefeather, which was rather impossible considering her black fur against the white snow stood out like a beacon. "Hey, Eaglefeather! Are you looking for herbs?" she nearly shouted in the other cat's ear. Looking around the river, she sighed. "Prey is pretty scarce. I think I saw some herbs on the way to the river, but I can't really remember where..."
She leaped onto the ice, which was thick enough that it could support her without even a crack. Putting a paw into an opening of ice, she shivered. "Brrr! This water is so cold, I'm surprised that it's not frozen like everything else around here. I can't feel a single fish in here, either," she added, removing her paw and shuddering again. "I envy every cat that has even a tad longer pelt than mine. Me, I can't even feel my paws anymore!"
Nightshade plunked her paw into the river once more. "Hey, I think I got something!" Twisting her paw back out, she brought up lots of water and a pitifully small fish. "It seems like that's going to be the best of today. Do you need any help finding herbs, Eaglefeather?"
