((Cats on patrol: Eaglestar, Duststorm, Russetblaze, Smudgepaw))
Eagletalon paused on the crest of a hill, looking out over the border with ShadowClan. He squinted his eyes, thinking maybe he would see a familiar lithe shape. But no one emerged from the mists among the pine trees. He sighed and looked back to the rest of the patrol. "Keep up!" He called to them.

"I'm coming, I'm coming!" Smudgepaw replied to Eaglestar, pricking her ears up as the ran toward her leader. Jeez, why did everyone in Windclan have to run so darn fast? She puffed up the hill and emerged on top, panting, but satisfied that she had arrived before the other two warriors. "It's getting warmer," she stated, and then grumbled, "I don't like it."

Russetblaze's dark green eyes seemed clouded with deep thought. No matter how much the leader yowled, she would not go any faster than her normal pace, not because she was a rebellious youngster, but because she was thinking --about nothing in particular-- and didn't hear him.
Russetblaze sighed at the leader's rashness, and even though the ginger she cat knew she could catch up to him to two strides, she stayed back to even her pace with Smudgepaw's. She gave no sign of any emotion in her face but her reply to the apprentice's comment was full of humor: "Nor do I. How do you think I feel ,with this long pelt, when it gets beyond sunrise?"

Eaglestar sighed and turned back to the two. "Warmth means the prey will be coming out more." He argued. "And we'll all be shedding once the sunlight strengthens, so the heat won't be that much of an issue."

Russetblaze kept her calm green gaze fixed on the leader. Though she would've loved to 'politely' remind Eaglestar that she would always have long fur, she kept her sharp tongue curbed... Sort of. "Oh, yes. I must remind nature to turn me into a short haired tabby," she mewed with a playful edge,"Anyway, are we going to get this patrol started now, or what?" The ginger she cat rose her white tipped tail in greeting to the other cats as she reached the top hill of springy grass.
"ShadowClan have been quiet," Russetblaze mused solemnly,"You know that whenever things are this peaceful, there's trouble coming, and it usually has something to do with those dark hearted cats." The russet she cat arched her back in a long stretch, allowing the pale rays of the New Leaf sun to soak in and warm her muscles.

Eaglestar bit his tongue when Russetblaze called the ShadowClan cats heartless. "Not all ShadowClan cats are heartless!" He mewed, thinking internally of Dawnfire. "In fact, one of their warriors is probably the best friend I ever had!" He looked into the mists before sighing. "But you're right, ShadowClan are usually the ones to start trouble when things start going right." He looked back at Smudgepaw. "Can you keep up well enough??" He asked the apprentice.
